For returning KJPAS students, you may be wondering, “what happened to the acting and musical theatre camps?” Well, we have combined the two camps into one super camp! We welcome you to an intensive week of acting, singing and dancing training and performance! In this confidence-building camp, we will stage and choreograph Broadway show-stopping numbers from
The Wizard of Oz and Wicked, and original Oz scenes by our resident playwright, Dwayne Yancey. By staging a showcase performance, we are able to feature every camper in the final performance for the public. And because the camps have now combined, there will be opportunities for our campers to be cast in acting scenes only, musical numbers only, or a combination of both!
Campers will also attend daily workshops including:
- On-camera acting for film and television. Every camper is videotaped for instant feedback on their performance. Campers learn on-camera lingo, as well as how to read from cue-cards, commercial copy, and Teleprompters.
- Picture and resume development. Every camper will have their make-up done by a professional make-up artist, and then have their photo taken by a professional photographer. Then, at the end of the camp, every camper will go home with their own 8 x 10 headshot! In addition, we will also help each camper create a professional looking resume and bio to take home!
- Audition techniques. We prepare all of our campers for professional level auditions.
- Character development. Every camper is taught how to make their own acting choices (acting beats, focus points, gestures, and sub-text etc.) so that they can give a clean acting performance.
- The “Business of Acting”. Professional theatre taught by professional actors! Learn all the tips and tricks to making it in the business!
- Improvisation. The most fun you can possibly have in such a short amount of time. And don’t tell anyone, but you’ll also be gaining valuable acting technique at the same time!
- How to survive a dance call. Campers learn how to "sell" themselves at a Broadway dance-call.
Every camper this year will receive a FREE DVD of their camp showcase performance!
