2022 Summer Intensive

Due to the decline of Covid-19 cases around the country, and a percent positive rate of under 3% for most of the east coast, I am delighted to announce that our summer intensive will run as it did pre-pandemic without any Covid protocols!

KJPAS employs a professional faculty of performers, many of whom have multiple Broadway and national touring credits, as well as film and television credits. If you are looking for a well-rounded, professional training program, look no further! 

The KJPAS Summer Intensive will take place from 4pm, Sunday, July 3rd thru 12pm Saturday, July 9th. The showcase performance will begin at 11:30am on Saturday, July 9th. We will once again be running our Intensive out of the Smith Mountain Lake 4-H Conference Center, right on the shore of beautiful Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia.

Students will be housed in the Hepler-Jamison lodge with hotel-style lodging. Each room has a private ensuite bathroom and control of its own central air-conditioning unit. The lodge is located just down the path from the Central Activities Building which houses our indoor rehearsal and performance space, as well as the dining hall. Three delicous meals and plenty of snacks will be provided each day. KJPAS proudly caters to all dietary restrictions. 

Your day will be broken down into vocal, dance and acting rehearsals for the big showcase performance, and a plethora of professional theater workshops including: Headshot/Resume/Bio workshop (every student will go home with a professional headshot, resume and bio); How To Survive a Dance Call; Acting for Film and Television; Character Development;  a Fosse dance workshop, the Business of Acting, Yoga for Actors, and many more!

In addition to the theater training aspect of our week-long intensive, we also offer "camp" electives including swimming in the olympic sized pool, canoing/kayaking on the lake, archery, rock wall climbing, mini-golf, and more! 

Evening activities include A Night at the Improv., the KJPAS Big Game Night, the KJPAS "Search for the missing Tony Awards" scavenger hunt, a Broadway movie night, and other themed activities. As our Intensive will run over July 4th, we will also have some special Independance Day activities to help you celebrate! 

Tuition includes hotel style lodging, all meals and snacks, an Intensive t-shirt, a professional headshot and resume, a link to download the showcase performance, and of course, the professional training and performance that you have come to expect from KJPAS! 

The KJPAS Summer Intensive is open to rising 5th thru graduating 12th graders. Summer Intensive Tuition: $799 submitted on or before April 30; $875 submitted May 1st or later. 

Why did the price go up? 

As you know, the global supply chain issues of the past year have forced price increases of goods and services across the board. I am now absorbing almost $50 in website registration services and credit card fees for each application. In addtion, our T-shirts have doubled in price since last summer, and the 4H Conference Center rental fee had a sizable increase. I also decided to continue to provide the hotel style loding for our Intensive (which had been gifted to us by the 4H Center at no additional charge during the pandemic) rather than return to dormitory lodging. So, the lodging upgrade comes at a higher price point. Other increases that I am incurring in 2022 include faculty and musician salaries, headshot photographer fees, headshot printing expenses, and sheet music printing fees. I will also share that while your tuition has gone up, the only way that I was able to keep the week-long program under $800 was to accept a decease in what the studio will make from each registration. If you compare KJPAS to other specialized camps and intensives, KJPAS is still charging less than half of what you would spend elsewhere for a similar Broadway experience (and in some cases, more than 75% less!).
